Hexagon stitch is a gorgeous stitch pattern with a deep texture and geometric look. It may take a little bit of practice, but it’ll be worth it! Use hexagon as an all-over pattern, or just add little details to an otherwise plain garment.

Step By Step

1.

To start with hexagon stitch, cast on and knit your first row.

2.

This pattern repeats every 4 rows. For the first pattern row, knit the first stitch.

3.

Knit into the row below by picking up the first loop below the needle.

Wrap the yarn around the needle, pull through, and slip off as a normal knit stitch.

5.

Repeat steps 2-4 until you have one stitch left. Knit the last stitch.

6.

Second pattern row: knit the first stitch.

7.

Insert the right needle through the diagonal strand (the result of knitting into the row below).

8.

Insert the right needle into the next stitch and slip it.

9.

Insert the left needle into the 2 slipped stitches, wrap the yarn around the right needle, and finish as a knit stitch.

10.

Repeat steps 6-9 to finish the row.

11.

Pattern row 3: knit the stitch in the row below the needles as a normal knit stitch.

12.

Knit the next stitch.

13.

Repeat steps 11 and 12 to finish out the row.

14.

Pattern row 4: pick up the diagonal strand and slip the first stitch.

15.

Insert the left needle through both of those stitches, wrap yarn around the right needle, and knit normally.

16.

Repeat steps 2-15.
