In this how-to, we will show you how to do the long-tail cast-on over two needles. This creates an even stretchier edge than the normal long-tail cast-on which uses one needle, and is great for wide stitches, such as brioche stitch. We will be using 6.5mm knitting needles, and our Sheepaca Yarn in Lipstick Red. Let's get started!
To begin working our long-tail cast-on over two needles, make a slip knot, leaving a long tail.
Next hold both your needles together in your right hand, and place the slip knot over both the needles. Make sure the yarn tail is facing towards you.
Pull on the yarn tail to adjust the slip knot so that it sits snugly against the two needles.
Now insert your left thumb and index finger between the two strands of yarn.
Close the rest of your fingers around the two strands of yarn.
Now insert both of the needles under the strand that is wrapped around your thumb.
Scoop up the strand that is wrapped around your index finger.
Bring the yarn out through the thumb loop.
And gently pull on your yarn tail to tighten up that stitch. You have just made your first stitch. There are now two stitches on the needles. Keep repeating these steps to continue doing long-tail cast-on over two needles.
