Learn how to single crochet through the back loop
In this easy to follow video tutorial we will show you how to crochet through the back loop of the stitch. This technique creates a textured horizontal stripe in the fabric when done every row. It can also be done as a single row to create a ridge or fold in the fabric.
This how-to will show you how to do single crochet through the back loop. We are using our Shiny Happy Cotton in Naked Blue. Let's get started!
Here, we have already worked a few rows in single crochet. To work single crochet through the back loop, you begin by making a turning chain of one chain stitch. To do this, take your yarn, wrap it once around the hook, and pull it through the stitch you ended on in the last row
To work through the back loop, rather than putting your hook under the whole of the next stitch as you would normally do in single crochet (illustrated here on the left) ...
Instead, you go through the back of the "v". (Illustrated here on the left) Complete a single crochet stitch by wrapping the yarn once around the hook and pulling it through the first loop. Wrap the yarn around the hook again, and pull through the two remaining loops on the hook.
Repeat doing single crochet through the back "v" on each stitch to continue working single crocheting through the back loop. As you go, you will start to see a lovely decorative line forming. Happy crocheting!
